One of Dawson Civil’s newest faces brings decades of industry-related experience and is delighted to embark on his new career as their new Business Development Manager.

After graduating from St. Ann’s Academy in Kamloops, B.C., Shane Gowans began a successful business development career on both sides of the border, procuring business in both the oil and gas, and industrial sectors.

“This opportunity felt like I was coming home. I have always wanted to return to B.C. at some point, so I was very excited when I saw the job posting and began dreaming about the ways that my skills could help this great company,” said Gowans.

Gowans’ professional experience and his Bachelor of Marketing and Business Administration degrees allow him to think creatively, analyze data and build relationships.

He used that knowledge and his relationship building skills in Houston, Tex., with Fortress Engineering, where he recruited clients, liaised meetings between multiple companies and created business for all parties involved.

“We think that Shane is going to be a great fit with Dawson Civil given his strong success in a related field. He has developed great relationships everywhere he has gone, became an expert in his field and made significant contributions to some great projects,” said Chris Cooper, Manager of Dawson Civil.

Gowans has already begun logging the kilometres with Dawson, travelling to different communities to establish new relationships.

Earlier this month, he met a few employees at our Dawson Road Maintenance (DRM) yard in Lillooet to learn about potential road maintenance opportunities, while also teaming up with them for meetings with a pair of Indigenous groups in the area. Later, he was in Anahim Lake, also accompanied by DRM, discussing potential future economic development opportunities on some possible projects with Indigenous groups in the Central Cariboo.

As Gowans progresses through his early days with Dawson Civil, he is looking forward to meeting existing clients, establishing a strong first impression and networking in the many communities across our province.

“There is so much of B.C. that I haven’t seen before and so many communities that I never would have interacted with. I cannot wait to get out on the road, get to know these people on an individual level, figure out what their goals and aspirations are, and team up together to complete great projects that help everyone out,” said Gowans.

Away from the office, Gowans is a family man whose downtime is occupied in raising his teenage son and daughter, and his dog Bailey. When he gets some time to himself, Gowans enjoys cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks and still participates in recreational league hockey games from time to time.
